(Miami, FL November 10, 2016) – City of Miami Commissioner Ken Russell has partnered with the American Legion Post 182 to make the Coconut Grove Veterans Day Parade and Celebration a grand event that brings together the whole community on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 10 a.m.

The parade will assemble at the Coconut Grove Playhouse Parking Lot at 3500 Main Highway, march through Commodore Plaza and conclude at Elizabeth Virrick Park with a route through Grand Avenue, Douglas Road and Percival Avenue.

“This community deserves to have a signature parade,” said Commissioner Russell. “What better way to bring out the neighborhood for a morning of music and family fun than with an event honoring our nation’s veterans.”

The parade will have a longer route this year and will feature veterans groups, marching bands from all over South Florida including the Florida Memorial University Drum Corps, a classic and custom car procession, and pageant titleholders including Miss Florida Courtney Sexton. The ceremony will conclude with guest speaker Carl E. Mitchell, who served as the first coordinator for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence project under Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson. With the involvement of organizations and performers throughout Miami-Dade and neighboring counties, this year’s parade is growing into a large music and food filled event for the entire South Florida community. Both Commissioner Russell and American Legion Post 182 would greatly appreciate and look forward to your participation in this commemorative celebration of South Florida’s veterans.

“The Legion is always working for our community and we really appreciate Commissioner Russell supporting our efforts,” said Alice Eason, Past Commander of American Legionn Post 182. “We’re very excited about this year’s parade and celebration.”
